Rhonda Keith blogs as the “Cincinnati Independent Examiner”. For someone who is supposedly “independent”, it’s striking how often she parrots the wingnut line. What is not surprising is her use of that old wingnut favorite, the casual lie.
Barack Obama has taken abortion rationalization to its logical extreme. He was the only member of Congress to vote against the born-alive law, which would require medical care to be given to an infant (call it what you will) that survives an abortion.
Note that the bill to which Rhonda has linked was under consideration in the Illinois state assembly. Has she found the first known example of a member of Congress being allowed to vote on the passage of a state law? Um, nope. She’s just lying outright here.
Rhonda doubles down on her mendacity:
If [a fetus] isn’t killed outright during the abortion, [Obama] said it should not be allowed to live.
Again, nope. The speech that Rhonda refers to has been the target of right-wing smears before, and said smears have been thoroughly debunked. Obama was in fact pointing out that a bill under consideration in the Illinois Senate would be unconstitutional because it would ban all abortions.
You know, Rhonda, if you want to be seen as “independent”, you might at least want to come up with some original fibs of your own, rather than just echo old wingnut horsecrap that has already been exposed as false.
UPDATE 12/04/09 9:24 AM EST: Rhonda apparently believes that there is no lie that cannot be improved by piling another lie on top of it. In a reply to my comment at her site, she states:
The “unconstitutionality” of giving medical care to infants born alive is a matter of interpretation, and only Obama twisted that meaning into it by insisting that an embryo is not a human being if someone intended to kill it.
This is, of course, a blatant and transparent lie. At no time has Obama “insist[ed] that an embryo is not a human being if someone intended to kill it”.
Rhonda Keith does not know how to conduct an argument without lying outright. She’s no different from the millions of other wingnuts that infect and debase the political discourse in this country. and she certainly exhibits no “independence” in that regard.

I was careless when I wrote member of Congress, when I meant the state legislature. Otherwise, it’s all true. The “unconstitutionality” of giving medical care to infants born alive is a matter of interpretation, and only Obama twisted that meaning into it.

Rhonda, I have also noticed some distortions of the truth in another writing of yours. When you were commenting on the Navy Seals that are being held for trial, you mentioned that the terrorist that is accusing the Seals of abuse, was known to have murdered American service men, when in fact they were contractors for Blackwater. Either way, they are still American citizens and the terrorist in question deserves to be tried for his crimes, but you need to get your facts straight if you are going to publicize your comments on the World Wide Web.
