Intellectual dishonesty is the one foundational trait of the far-right wingnut. And our old friend, the lizard bitch that calls itself ‘Cao’, is a textbook example of intellectual dishonesty.
Cao has joined most of the rest of the wingnutosphere in pimping the ‘Carlin report’, which pretends to be an objective analysis of current climate science. It is, instead, a rehashing of long-debunked misinformation and outright lies from climate-change deniers. Even better, the ‘author’ (who, let us note, is not a scientist) plagiarized significant chunks of the report from a climate-denial blog.
So it’s no surprise that Cao would choose to champion a ‘scientific’ report written by a non-scientist and plagiarist. This is exactly the sort of intellectually dishonest behavior one expects from bottom-feeding wingnut slime of Cao’s sort.
UPDATE 07/01/09 3:21 PM EDT: More on the ‘Carlin report’ from Steve Benen:
At issue is a “memo” put together by Alan Carlin, who works at the EPA as an economist, not a climate scientist. He happens to believe the planet may be getting cooler, all evidence to the contrary notwithstanding.
Did Carlin prepare a “report” on climate change? No. In his spare time, he put together an argument against global warming, which wasn’t requested by anyone at the agency. His argument stems from his personal hobby.
Was Carlin’s memo “suppressed”? No. The EPA’s National Center for Environmental Economics allowed him to put together his memo, and it was reviewed by agency scientists.
Was Carlin’s memo any good? No. I’ve seen it described this week as “a hodgepodge of widely discredited pseudoscience,” and “a ragbag collection of un-peer reviewed web pages, an unhealthy dose of sunstroke, a dash of astrology and more cherries than you can poke a cocktail stick at.”
Zachary Roth spoke to Carlin, and the economist conceded that his “studies” were not “specifically commissioned by the EPA,” and they’ve been published, but “not all in academic journals.”

UPDATE 07/04/09 7:55 AM EDT: Check out Cao’s rambling and incoherent defense of Carlin’s plagiarism, which boils down to “What�s the big deal?”.
Cao is careful to ignore the fact that plagiarism is hardly the only criticism that can be made of Carlin’s non-report. Gavin Schmidt of NASA has published an in-depth critique of Carlin’s horseshit, noting that the ‘report’ is internally inconsistent and relies heavily upon non-peer-reviewed blog posts and various purveyors of pseudoscience, including an astrologer.
Golly. No wonder Cao finds Carlin’s work so convincing.
Noted in passing: Like the good little puppy dog that she is, Judy Doucette has taken up the hue and cry, trotting along behind Cao, nodding her pointy little head in agreement. The really hilarious bit is that Judy calls the Carlin mess a “carefully done study” — ignoring the fact that Carlin himself admits that his ‘report’ was slapped together in just four days.
UPDATE 07/04/09 1:49 PM EDT: Cao is busily spinning, spinning, spinning. Now it claims that the Carlin report was actually authored by Carlin and a second individual named Davidson. Cao does this in order to hint that maybe it was Carlin’s co-author was responsible for the plagiarism. Note that the lizard bitch is careful to cite only a draft of the report — ignoring the fact that in the final version, Carlin claims sole authorship. As I said at the start of this post, intellectual dishonesty is the one foundational trait of the far-right wingnut.
Also laughable is Cao’s attempt to smear me as a plagiarist, citing nothing more substantial than the name of this blog. Note how convenient it is that the lizard bitch claims that I am Terry Bisson when it suits its purpose, and then decides that I am not Terry Bisson when that becomes the most convenient position. As I said in one of the comments below, if the lizard bitch truly believes that I am committing either plagiarism or copyright infringement, it should contact Mr. Bisson’s publisher. Let’s see it put its money where its lying mouth is.
Or perhaps it can attempt something a bit easier — such as explaining why Carlin’s plagiarism should simply be ignored, and his ‘report’ treated as though it were an honest examination of the scientific evidence for climate change.

If you are going to assert something that is so far out of the park (namely Nazi Germany was pro homosexual) then I think I have the right to ask you to justify that position. You posted some justifications (I believe primarily from the book The Pink Swastika but I’m not sure as you did not reference your sources) which I’ve spent a couple of hours researching and are almost certainly false. I’d be more than happy to debate the issue with you so long as it is civil and you don’t censor any posts.

I seem to have been banned from Cao’s blog- of course for telling the truth. I quoted chapter and verse from Richard Evans’s books to refute her insistence that the Nazis were a bunch of leftist gay nancy boys. She replied by calling Evans a Nazi propagandist! As you can imagine, she had some rather less polite terms for me.
Boy, what a case of hard core delusion. Oh well, I was wasting my time over there. Maybe I should start in on Donald Douglas.

This didn’t make any sense, because she must have misread the Climate Progress blog entry. Deep climate was a blog pointing out many examples of direct and nearly direct plagiarism in the document. World Climate Report is a warming-skeptic site that had this material that they were lifting from. Climate Progress never confuses Deep Climate and WCR. -
