How stupid is Cassy Fiano?

This stupid:

What are we protesting? We’re protesting spending over $800 billion in wasteful pork.

The ”$800 billion” that Cassy refers to is the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act — the “stimulus package”. $800 billion, of course, is an exaggeration. The actual amount is about $787 billion.

Where Cassy brings the stupid, though, is in referring to the stimulus package as “wasteful pork”. Nearly one-third of the ARRA is composed of tax cuts. But because the wingnut right doesn’t really think through their yapping points in anything resembling a logical fashion, suddenly tax cuts — the very thing that the wingnut right blindly insists is the only workable strategy — is “wasteful pork”.

If you want broad (and inaccurate or deliberately misleading) characterizations, or mindless sloganeering, your friendly neighborhood wingnut is happy to help. If you want thoughtful analysis and discussion of the reality of the stimulus, the wingnuts can’t help you.

  1. I have a strong feeling that roughly 95% of the wingnut bloggers railing about “pork” have no idea what the term “pork-barrel politics” even means. They equate it with “excess spending,” or better yet, “an insult I can use duh duh duh WHEEEEE!” Someone labeled the stimulus plan pork, and you know how vicious moron-memes are in the wingblog community. Ebola is basically non-communicable in comparison to ignorance among the conservatarded assholerati.

  2. Ooooo… assholerati! I like that almost as much as I like ignorexia verbosa.

But, yes, indeed: posts like Cassy’s are not driven by any actual thoughts on the matter at hand. They are basically the predictable regurgitation of the Faux News talking points du jour. Challenge a wingnut to actually support its claims with facts, and they scurry back under the fridge — cockroaches reacting to the kitchen light being turned on suddenly.
