Poor Big Dog… he really is this stupid

You are a fan of thinking? Then you should try and THINK about the point Big Dog is trying to make (and many others, for that matter).

While Big Dog’s advice is well intentioned, this kind of advice is always given freely to Israel. The trouble is it belies the advice-givers’ ignorance of the single most fundamental tenet of Judaism: The preservation of life.

It seems absurd that a tradition that cherishes life more than anything else in the world would be charge with something as obscene as the blood libel. The highest principle in Judaism is pikuach nefesh, the saving of life. One would think by now that the world would know that famous Talmudic sentence taught in Schindler’s List. “If a person saves one life, it is as though he saved an entire world.” However, we should realize that Schindler’s List was banned in many Islamic countries. Israel agonizes over all lives lost in the current uprising, both Jewish and Arab. It should be noted that the Palestinian casualties could be much, much greater if the Israeli Army did not restrain itself. Indeed, in any other uprising, the casualties have been much greater. However, all life is cherished in our tradition.

The sanctity of life is paramount, all life, and while self-defense is accorded a pass as preservation of life, going out of one’s way to kill innocents is anathema to any Jew, even secular Jews like myself of which Israel is comprised in large part. it is almost a part of our genetic make-up.

Big Dog’s sentiments do not negate the fact that her neighbors are a far cry from the peace-loving practitioners of Islam that many profess them to be, and that they do not even come close to having the same reverence for life that we have.

Think about that.
