No. The statement that Hoft lied doesn’t depend upon disproving a claim that he merely paraphrased. That statement depends only upon comparing the alleged quote that Hoft used with the actual content of Obama’s remarks. Since the former is not found in the latter, Hoft’s “quote” is a lie.

The statement that Hoft lied isn’t based on his past behavior. It’s based on a simple comparison between what Hoft quoted Obama as saying, and what Obama actually said. The comparison shows that what Hoft quoted Obama as saying is not what Obama said. Hoft lied.

I discussed Hoft’s past behavior in the context of Duncan’s attempt to excuse the lie as a mere “paraphrase”. The excuse fails because Hoft routinely lies about what others have said. It is irrational to believe that Hoft would suddenly stop lying and start meekly paraphrasing.
