Cao squats, shits out another steaming pile

I am so going to enjoy ripping Cao a new one tonight. We already know that she’s a lying, clueless hack, but it’s so nice when she cooperates by posting more evidence of her willing mendacity.

Cao has noticed that wingnut radio host Melanie Morgan is upset that some of her eliminationist rhetoric has been brought to the attention of some of her advertisers, by a fellow who goes by the nom de blog Spocko. Some of the advertisers bailed out of their sponsorship of Morgan’s show.

Morgan and her fellow mouth-breathers, Cao included, are trying to paint this as some kind of attack on Morgan’s right to free speech. Horse hockey. Morgan et al have every right to expound their repulsive, eliminationist views. But no one is guaranteed the right to get paid to do so.

Here’s the part where Cao segues from mindless parrotting to lying by omission:

This is just another example of how leftists are totally unhinged; making up ridiculous accusations to control our behavior and eliminate our ability to even talk about issues!

Um… nope. In point of fact, it is Morgan and her employer KSFO (owned by Disney) who are trying to eliminate the ability of someone to talk about the issues. The station’s lawyers sent a threatening letter [PDF] to Spocko’s ISP, who promptly pulled the plug on his site. In light of this, even the title of Cao’s post is a sick joke: “freedom of speech for me, but not for thee”. That’s the viewpoint of Morgan and KSFO, not Spocko.

Notice that for all her whimpering about “ridiculous accusations”, Cao is unable to cite a single such “accusation”. She hurls her own fact-free allegation and scampers off, oblivious to the fact that if she says it, she is responsible for backing it up with facts.

Matt Zimmerman at the EFF put it this way:

[T]he station has begun arguing (ironically enough) that criticism of their content amounts to censorship. Morgan yesterday blasted Spocko and his “stalker friends on the Internet” who, according to Morgan, are trying to “take away our free speech rights.”

Sorry, KSFO. Not quite.

While such radio personalities certainly have a right to air their views, the First Amendment says nothing about a right to advertiser-subsidized speech. Even if advertisers choose to pull their ads because Spocko has a more convincing argument—even if advertiser revenue dries up completely and shows are cancelled—it doesn’t necessarily follow that anyone’s free speech rights have being violated. Rough and tumble speech is often protected speech nonetheless, as KSFO well knows, and the “marketplace of ideas” promoted and protected by the First Amendment frequently results in definite winners and losers. KSFO, quick to call out the attack lawyers yet slow to respond to the concerns of advertisers, is rapidly embracing that loser mantle.

Cao, as always, has presented a fairy tale to her readers. Why did Cao choose to omit the facts regarding the shutdown of Spocko’s site from her blog? From where I sit, the only possible answer is that she holds her readership in enormous contempt. She believes that they are all too stupid to go find the facts on their own, and so she feels perfectly safe in feeding them any distorted, falsified version of events that she chooses.

It’s easy to find the facts, and the facts show irrefutably that Cao is lying to her readers. Apparently she doesn’t care that she is lying.

Your contempt for your readers is inherent in your failure to provide them with all the facts.
