Via TPMCafe comes news out of Ohio: The Akron beacon Journal reports that State Sen. Robert Hagan will introduce a bill “that would ban households with one or more Republican voters from adopting children or acting as foster parents”. Says Hagan:
Credible research exists that strongly suggests that adopted children raised in Republican households, though significantly wealthier than their Democrat-raised counterparts, are more at risk for developing emotional problems, social stigmas, inflated egos, an alarming lack of tolerance for others they deem different than themselves, and an air of overconfidence to mask their insecurities.
Hagan, of course, has his tongue planted quite firmly in his cheek. Rep. Ron Hood, R-Ashville, recently introduced a bill in the Ohio legislature that would ban adoption by gay individuals or couples. Hagan points out that there is no more scientific evidence for the claim that being raised by Republicans is harmful to children than there is for the claim that being raised by gay parents is harmful.
Happily, the bill was quickly squashed by the Republican leadership of the Ohio legislature.
